I love photographing weddings on the San Juan Islands. Having grown up there, and still returning often to visit family and friends, it’s the place in the world that truly feels like home. I love showing folks my favorite spots and helping couples through the process as needed. For this wedding, E & Z brought their friends and family up to stay on the island for a festive weekend of camping and exploring.
We decided to do a first look on a hillside trail at sunrise. It was an incredible, intimate moment for E&Z to start their day with.
They decided to go with a more casual look so that it would be easy to hike up and change in the open air. We met at 6am, coffee in hand, and walked about 15 mins up to where the hillside gives an incredible view of the Northwest side of San Juan Island.
I highly recommend breaking up the day like this. It was the best of both worlds, feeling somewhat like an elopement with an intimate time for the two of them, following by the ceremony and celebration later in the day.
It also was a fantastic way to avoid to midday heat, and allow Z&E to go straight into their party after the ceremony, while still getting fantastic light during their couple’s portraits.
Stay tuned for more from their ceremony and reception!
