On the north end of San Juan Island, on the beautiful Westcott Bay outside of Roche Harbor, there is a fantastic oyster farm there. Westcott Bay Shellfish is a fantastic intimate wedding and retreat venue. Deb Nolan is the lead chef for any private event…and if you’ve ever had her food, you know that her and her team are going to fed you some of the best cuisine you could ask for on San Juan Island.
After C&M’s intimate sunrise first look on the other side of San Juan Island, their wedding took place in the afternoon on the Westcott Bay Shellfish. It was an incredible location for a San Juan Island wedding, overlooking the bay from the Net Shed.
I absolutely adore photographing island weddings. This location in particular I LOVE because it’s literally a few minutes and one bay over from where I grew up. I used to row and kayak into this bay all the time, and still stay at my family’s home when I’m back on San Juan Island either for weddings or to visit friends and family.
C&M had a more intimate feel to their wedding, that felt incredibly relaxed. The food and views were incredible, and as you can see from the photos, everyone was having a fantastic time…. including the dog of honor who had a great time begging for scraps throughout the day. Nothing like when folks include their dog in their wedding!
Also, this was MAY in the San Juan Islands. It was a beautiful day for a wedding, as it often is out here in the islands. While Washington may have a reputation for being dreary, San Juan Island catches a bit of the rain-shadows and boasts at least 265 days of sun per year! While we definitely get rain regularly, it usually doesn’t last all day (much less a few days) and generally the sun breaks through to keep people company. It’s one of many reasons why the San Juan Islands are a great location for weddings YEAR round, not just in the summer.
See you out here soon!
